The Saudi Electricity Company was founded after issuance of Council of Ministers decision No. 169 and date 1419 H, which ordered the consolidation of all Saudi electricity in the region, small companies and operational projects that were administered by the Public Electricity Corporation in one joint venture which is called the Saudi Electricity Company. The company directs its continuing efforts to meet the growing demand for electricity energy, where its annual growth rates of almost 10%. The company based its concept of planning as has become a feature of the modern era through which a vision for the future is developed and then work to meet the future needs in light of the objectives and possibilities to predict the anticipated problems and propose mechanisms of work. Based on this concept and the desire to promote and develop research programs, the Saudi Electricity Company funded academic chairs in Saudi universities, including "the chair of the Saudi Electricity Company for Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency " with King Abdulaziz University with the amount of five million Saudi Riyals for four years and that to contribute strengthening the role of universities and the fruitful cooperation between industry and universities.
