One is pleased that Saudi Arabia Kingdom plays its rightful role in industrial, commercial and service production in the midst of the sweeping changes that took most of the world in recent times. The most prominent among these variables, the rapid development of technology, the dominance of market mechanisms, the flow of trade, the acceleration of the investment and the increasing of competition. By the active role and increased responsibility of King Abdul Aziz University towards the goal of serving the community in this noble country and contribute to its progress and development because the university is an integral part of this community, and therefore the University has developed a system of its activities to correspond with what is required to achieve this goal, where the university is keen to adopt distinct academic activities and support ways and means to contribute to its success. One of these distinct academic activities includes establishment of Scientific Chairs which are adopted and pursued by renowned universities in the world where the aim of these Scientific Chairs is to enrich human knowledge, the development of thought, serving the local development issues, investment of renewable resources from voluntary contributions, endowments and donations, which played a remarkable role in the dissemination of science and knowledge in the ages of prosperous Islamic civilization
On the basis of fruitful and positive cooperation between different sectors of the Kingdom, the Saudi Electricity Company is kindly supporting a Scientific Chair at King Abdul Aziz University for Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency, where it will provide a number of programs that include a set of procedures undertaken by the Saudi Electricity Company in cooperation with energy consumers, which hopefully, by Allah's will, lead to reducing the rate of power consumption without affecting the quality of work and performance, particularly during periods of peak consumption; in addition to providing a range of programs that lead to the optimal use of energy and increase the efficiency of lighting and air conditioning work. For the importance of introducing and discussing themes of this Scientific, King Abdul Aziz University has organized the first workshop of the Scientific Chair, and invites specialists in the fields of engineering, power and energy from private and government sectors to participate in this workshop and to recognize the objectives of the Scientific Chair and contribute with their opinions and advice to find a consensus and understanding formula between producer and consumer of electric power.
